The owner or occupants must assume some preparation duties such as protecting or removing medicine, food, pets, and plants.
Interior Preparation
- Operable internal doors, including cabinets, closets, appliances, drawers, crawl spaces, attics, etc., should be opened to aid in gas distribution and aeration.
- Waterproof mattresses and baby mattresses must be removed from the structure. Waterbeds can remain in place.
- Persons, domestic animals, pets (including fish), and sensitive plants must be removed from the fumigation site.
- Food and medicine (including items in refrigerators and freezers) can remain in the structure if they are in plastic, glass or metal bottles, and cans, or jars with the original manufacturer’s air-tight seal intact.
- Food and medicine that occupants want to keep in the refrigerator or structure must be double bagged and sealed properly in Nylofume bags (a special material used to safely protect items from gas), which only may be purchased from authorized distributors such as your fumigation or termite company. Otherwise, all food, medicine (including tobacco products), and pet feed items must be removed from the fumigation site.
